Somalia Backs Yemen’s Unity and Maritime Security: What You Need to Know
Somalia has reaffirmed support for Yemen’s unity and Saudi-led efforts, warning against threats to Red Sea and Gulf of Aden shipping amid rising regional tensions.
Somalia said on Tuesday it firmly supports the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, rejecting any actions that undermine the country’s constitutional legitimacy or national institutions.
In a statement, the Federal Republic of Somalia reaffirmed its backing of Yemen’s internationally recognised government and stressed that the conflict should be resolved through a Yemeni-led political process that preserves state sovereignty and meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security and stability.
Somalia also praised the role of Saudi Arabia in supporting Yemen’s security and stability, citing Riyadh’s political, diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to end the conflict and advance a comprehensive peace process in line with internationally agreed frameworks.
The statement further commended the Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, saying its actions aim to protect state institutions, preserve Yemen’s territorial integrity and support political efforts to restore stability.
Somalia expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia against threats to its security and warned against actions that could endanger international maritime navigation or destabilise the wider region.
“The security and stability of Yemen constitute a fundamental pillar for the security of the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Horn of Africa,” the statement said, urging the international community to continue supporting efforts toward a sustainable political settlement.
The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions affecting shipping routes through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, which are vital for global trade and directly linked to security developments in Yemen.
